Get all the answers to some of the most often asked questions related to teaching with Rose Library.

    No, your class does not need to have an assignment to schedule an instruction session in Rose Library. However, any class scheduled in the Teaching & Learning Studio must be actively using materials from the Rose Library.

    First, create a new account in the Special Collections Request System and submit an Instruction Request Form indicating that you have already registered. Once your class is confirmed, you will be added to an “event” in the Special Collections Request system and you will receive an automatic email with further instructions.

    Students will be given clipboards with green paper and a pencil and are welcome to bring in their mobile phones at the discretion of the instructor. No food or drink is allowed in the classroom and students will be asked to place their belongings in the Backpack Storage Room adjacent to the classroom.

    No, we require that the instructor be present during the Rose Library instruction session. We have found that students respond better when the instructor is present and can connect the visit to broader course themes and topics.

    The Rose Library’s classroom space known as the Teaching & Learning Studio can only be reserved by Rose Library staff for classes actively using materials from the Rose Library’s collections. Due to the high demand for use of the space, we cannot accept request for use of the space for classes not actively using Rose Library materials.

    To schedule a class session to teach with Rose Library materials, please complete the Instruction Request Form.

    The Rose Library’s instruction team comprises of full-time archivists and graduate instruction assistants. The instructor assigned to your class will depend on staff availability and subject expertise.
